A way consisting of many different single stones sidles through a room. It's slanting, crooked, colored, maybe old. It may remind on cobbled pavement, familiar ways, dreamy ways. You could find your favorite stone, maybe three or four. No big philosophy but joy of the material. I'm working with ways - as space between - of going off and arriving. A and B, start and end points and journeys as - space between - in everyday life. Next to the first way exists a second one: a lot of small similar signposts, black with white letters. You may find distances and names of towns (of course Honolulu, Ann Arbor, Canberra, Halle and other). Now the way is in your head and you can decide if you cross Lissabon, Timbuktu and Wladiwostok to come from Halle to......or if you want to go over the seven hills from yesterday to no-where. You can choose realistic variants, but there is also room for more ... A third idea arises by thinking about ordinary ways - from home to the studio, to the supermarket, walking with the dog - and the question of the way of going them - conscious or unconscious, are they practical or misty, do I enjoy or hate them... I'd like to make something like a game about that. Forty-nine cubes can be combined, one with another and show you different routes (similar to a puzzle game but one with six possibilities per piece). You can do detours or not, cross your favorite bakery or not - everything is possible. Of course (and unfortunately) there are red traffic lights to....it's just a game. |
