Lindsay Oesterritter - Woodfire

Lindsay Oesterritter is intrigued by the slow and natural changes that are constantly yet imperceptibly altering our daily environments. How the seemingly permanent is being perpetually altered through the weathering of time. Her current work is punctuated by the concept of the inseparable relationship form and surface develops though subtle and progressive erosion.

Oesterritter says, "I find inspiration in commonplace items within my surrounding environment. An axe's blade brand new is shiny and crisp, but through use, its actual shape is altered along with gaining a patina from wear. The form and surface become linked and unique to the singular object. It is my intention to utilize atmospheric kilns process techniques to highlight form and surface variations, and reference slow and continuous change."

"I have had the opportunity to speak and exhibit nationally and internationally and am continually inspired by the craft community. This is my first trip to Australia and I am honored to be the current resident artist at Strathnairn Arts Association in Canberra."

Lindsay Oesterritter graduated with an MFA from Utah State University in Logan Utah, a MA from the University of Louisville in Louisville Kentucky, and my BA at Transylvania University in Lexington Kentucky. For the past year she worked as a resident artist at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, and most recently, has been appointed assistant professor of ceramics at Western Kentucky University.

Lindsay will hold a woodfire workshop and firing at Strathnairn Arts Association in July.
4 - 5 July: throwing and handbuilding demonstrations; talks on suitable clay bodies and forms for woodfiring.
25 - 26 July: glazing, packing kiln and firing the firing will continue through Sunday night as necessary.
