Manisha Gunawardena :: Moments of transition 2002
I have chosen the symbol of the lotus to represent the transitional moments in the culture of the Sri Lankan people. The form inspired by a lotus petal is used as a vehicle to carry the inscription that records various moments of the cultural history. Some, which are left blank, represent the spaces between times, the information that has been lost or not recorded that enables the evolution of culture through time. They are the important spaces that fill the gaps of time to let the future unfold. They are the spaces between.
Jasmine Scheidler :: Objects 2002
I consider the space between to be a playground or meeting place for "grey" or indescribable areas. My work asks questions about ceramic traditions/history through material and functional ideas. It questions and eliminates preconceived ideas and definitions about what both of these mean. It explores interior and exterior space allowing the work to exist in an in between space.
Belinda Wyborn :: Webs 2002
My work plays with the concepts of webs. A web - that which surrounds, traverses and connects one thing to another, enveloping the space between. Webs are an integral part of our lives. They can provide a home; trap; support; strength; transport; knowledge; intrigue; clothes; carrying capacity; protection; mark a boundary or the widest web of all - the world wide web of the Internet and satellite communication - making the space between almost non-existent.

Controlled by light moving through the atmosphere, reflections on water are continually changing. As our line of sight extends, as the light dims and the breeze subtly changes direction, the mirror image distorts, dissolving in a moment only to reappear in the next.
When looking into a reflection on water, the eye is given a choice to stop on the surface, or focus through to what lies beneath. It is the act of looking at and looking through that has led me to examine space between the front and back of an object.
By enlarging or reducing this space between one has the capacity to conceal or reveal the internal.
