Fatima Hoang :: Hello Mr Ambiguous
The distance between here and there as we use an arbitrary form of measurement. A wall can be built to divide a space, but is the space really divided? The wall between here and there is just a wall and here is no further from there because of the wall. We make here and there farther from each other in our minds because we now have to move around the wall. The space between two or four objects does not matter because it is always changing and always different for each person at each moment in time, even though the objects are constant. What is between here and there? A division that we have set in our minds to be true but can be changed at any time.

Jeffrey Kurosaki :: The potential in difference
This piece addresses the difference that brings together, rather than separates, concepts shared by others. It is about the space that is created by difference where there is a potential to establish new concepts. The brick represents the difference, which, shared with the form of the figures, offers a new form. Although the form of the brick is not like that of the figure, it completes the piece. The process of working with the brick and creating a figure constructed of slabs concerned compromise and working within the limitations that the brick offered. Rather than be contrained by the limitations, it is this difference or space between the brick, clay and form that creates something new.

Sarah Hicks :: The shortest distance
This piece deals with a literal interpretation and tranformation of the space between in terms of an alternative method of measuring distance.

The plastic bags contain a specific weight of bentonite and koalin, which are intended to represent the respective amounts of these materials required to make a straight line over the surface of the earth that would connect Honolulu with Halle.

Eamon Shannon :: Other
Since this has been referred to as an international exploration, I have chosen to focus in on how people in a large scale relationship interact with each other, without getting into a great deal of detail, ie who, what, why, when and where. Defining space and relationships in the space between is often done through the use of an other that can be held in comparison. This can be done in a myriad of ways. The point being is that the main vehicle of identification and definition is some type of counter balance. In some ways this can be seen as a type of projection or interpretation of something. As we can see this is how my work is produced. A structure is created, illuminated and the space within the structure open for viewing projects the word other. In order for the world to be recognized it is dependent on another structure to support it so that it can be seen. The imagery projected by the cut-out is reflected off another surface, so that the projected text will read in the correct order.
